What is the Mercedes-Benz GLB?

The GLB is a compact SUV with an upright shape and a flexible cabin. Some configurations offer a third row, making it an option for households that need extra seating. In Mercedes-Benz’s range, it sits between the GLA and GLC.

The first-generation GLB, code X247, was introduced in 2019. Mercedes-Benz designed it as a practical addition to its compact-car range, and some versions can seat up to seven.

GLB engines and power

The GLB range includes petrol and diesel engines, along with hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric versions in some markets. EU engine sizes span 1.3 to 2.0 litres, with power from 85 kW (116 PS) to 225 kW (306 PS). UK figures reach 306 kW (416 PS); US and Canadian listings cover 2.0-litre engines.

Available powertrains vary by market. EU and UK listings include diesel and electrified options, while US and Canadian listings include petrol versions.

How economical is the Mercedes-Benz GLB?

The lowest listed EU consumption for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions is 5.3 L/100 km on WLTP. The EU also lists a weighted plug-in hybrid figure of 7.7 L/100 km, which assumes some driving is electric. The UK’s lowest listed WLTP figure is 5.4 L/100 km.

The lowest US figure is 8.4 L/100 km under the EPA test, with a best combined rating of 28 MPG. Canada’s NRCan 5-cycle low is 8.3 L/100 km. WLTP is used in Europe, while EPA and NRCan use different procedures, so results are best considered within each market.

Where was the GLB sold?

EU registrations total 200,394 from 2019 to 2025. The most registered listed configuration is a 1.9-litre diesel rated at 110 kW (150 PS), with 28,643 registrations in 2021. The GLB also appears in UK, US and Canadian figures, which begin in 2020.
