Tyre size decoder

Type the size from the tyre’s sidewall to see what each part means: width, profile, rim size, load index and speed rating, plus the tyre’s overall diameter.

How to read a tyre size

Take ⁦205/55 R16 91V⁩ as an example:

  • 205 is the width of the tyre in millimetres.
  • 55 is the profile: the sidewall height as a percentage of the width.
  • R means radial construction, the way almost every car tyre is built.
  • 16 is the diameter of the wheel rim in inches.
  • 91 is the load index: the most weight one tyre can carry, here 615 kg.
  • V is the speed rating: the highest speed the tyre is built for, here 240 km/h.

Fit the sizes, load index and speed rating your car’s maker approves, listed in the owner’s manual or on the label in the driver’s door frame or fuel filler flap.
