Models and generations
Each dataset's make and model names are matched to one catalogue of makes, model lines and generations. A version belongs to the generation whose years and markets include its first year; versions outside every known generation are listed on the model page.
Versions
Versions with identical figures in consecutive years are shown once with their years. EU registration data is grouped by year, fuel, engine size and power, with the number of new registrations; groups with fewer than ten registrations are left out. UK and French trims with identical figures share one row.
Test procedures and units
Figures from different markets come from different test procedures (WLTP and NEDC in Europe, the EPA test in the USA, the 5-cycle method in Canada), so each figure is labelled with its procedure and figures are never mixed. Power is shown in kW, as published, and in PS (kW ÷ 0.7355). US figures in miles per gallon are also shown in litres per 100 km (235.215 ÷ MPG); electric ratings in MPGe have no litres equivalent.
What the figures mean
Official figures come from standard laboratory tests of new cars. They are meant for comparing cars; real-world consumption depends on driving style, weather, load and the car's condition.
Updates
The site is rebuilt from fresh downloads of the datasets; the sources page shows the date of each.
