What is the Audi Q8?
The Q8 is Audi’s large SUV, with a sloping roofline that gives it a coupé-like profile. It joined the Q range in 2018 as its flagship SUV, combining a raised driving position with a more sculpted shape. Audi calls it an SUV coupé.
The 4M generation began in 2018. A later update refreshed the exterior and brought new lighting technology, including digital OLED rear lights.
Engines and power
The Q8 has been offered with a wide mix of powertrains. EU figures list engines from 3.0 to 4.0 litres and power from 115 kW (156 PS) to 471 kW (640 PS). The range includes petrol and diesel engines, hybrids, plug-in hybrids and electric entries. One of the most registered EU versions was the 3.0-litre diesel with 210 kW (286 PS), which recorded 15,246 registrations in 2019.
The US EPA figures list petrol, hybrid and electric versions, while Canadian NRCan figures list petrol and electric. The available powertrains vary by market.
How economical is the Audi Q8?
For petrol, diesel and hybrid versions, the lowest EU figure is 7.3 L/100 km on WLTP. The UK figure is 6.8 L/100 km on NEDC. These European test procedures differ, so the results are not directly equivalent. The EU plug-in hybrid weighted figure is 1.6 L/100 km on WLTP; it assumes that some driving is electric.
In the US, the lowest listed figure is 11.8 L/100 km on EPA, with a best combined rating of 20 MPG. Canada’s lowest listed figure is 11.7 L/100 km on NRCan’s 5-cycle test. WLTP and NEDC in Europe, EPA in the US and Canada’s 5-cycle procedure use different tests, so figures are best read within their market.
Where was it sold?
EU registration figures cover 2018–2025, with UK figures spanning 2018–2026, US EPA figures 2019–2027 and Canadian NRCan figures 2019–2026. EU registrations total 185,449.
