What is the BMW X6?

The BMW X6 is a large SUV with a coupé-like roofline. BMW calls it a Sports Activity Coupé, a name for its blend of the raised stance and shape of an X model with a sweeping roof. It sits among the larger models in BMW’s X range.

BMW introduced the X6 in 2008. Its generations are the E71 (2008–2014), F16 (2014–2019) and G06 (2019–today). Each keeps the same recognisable outline: a high-riding body with a roof that slopes towards the rear.

Engines and power

The X6 has been offered with petrol and diesel engines, as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions in some markets. In the EU, engine sizes range from 3.0 L to 4.4 L, with power from 155 kW (211 PS) to 460 kW (625 PS). The UK range covers 3.0 L to 4.4 L and 219 kW (298 PS) to 460 kW (625 PS).

How economical is the BMW X6?

In the EU, the lowest listed consumption for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions is 5.7 L/100 km on the WLTP test. The lowest plug-in hybrid figure is 7.3 L/100 km WLTP, a weighted value that assumes some driving is electric. The UK’s lowest listed figure is 6 L/100 km on the NEDC test; France’s is 7.4 L/100 km NEDC.

In the United States, the lowest listed EPA figure is 9.8 L/100 km, or 24 MPG combined. Canada’s lowest listed figure is 9.6 L/100 km on the NRCan 5-cycle test. These results use different procedures: WLTP or NEDC in Europe, EPA in the US and the 5-cycle test in Canada.

Where was the BMW X6 sold?

The X6 has been sold in Europe, the UK, France, the United States and Canada. EU registration figures cover 2010–2025 and total 230,991. The listed periods vary by market: 2008–2026 in the UK and Canada, 2008–2027 in the US, and 2012–2014 in France.

Official figures are measured on standard test procedures and differ between markets. Your consumption depends on how, where and in what conditions you drive.
