What it means
The current through pressure control solenoid K does not match the commanded value within tolerance. Coil resistance drift or high-resistance contact.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The control circuit for pressure control solenoid K carries the electrical command that operates a valve regulating transmission pressure. The TCM detects that the current or response does not match the commanded value within its expected range. A coil or wiring problem, a poor connection, or a hydraulic fault affecting the valve’s response can set this code.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Solenoid coil or wiring fault
- Poor connection at the solenoid connector
- Hydraulic or valve-body fault affecting solenoid response
Symptoms
- Check-engine or transmission warning light
- Harsh or delayed shifts
- Transmission may slip or hesitate
- Transmission may enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Read transmission codes and freeze-frame data, then compare solenoid K’s commanded state with its live electrical and pressure response.
- Inspect the solenoid K connector and harness for loose or corroded contacts, fluid intrusion, and damaged insulation.
- Measure the solenoid K circuit and coil using the manufacturer’s procedure and specifications, looking for an out-of-range reading or excessive resistance.
- Check circuit continuity and for unwanted shorts, paying particular attention to high-resistance connector contacts.
- If the electrical checks pass, assess solenoid K’s hydraulic response and valve-body passages using the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean, secure, or repair a poor connection at the solenoid K connector.
- Repair damaged or high-resistance wiring in the solenoid K circuit.
- Replace solenoid K if its coil or electrical response is outside the manufacturer’s specification.
- Repair a restricted hydraulic passage or valve-body fault if the electrical circuit tests correctly.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid towing, hard acceleration, and long trips because a poor pressure response can lead to slipping, harsh shifts, or limp mode. Stop if the transmission slips significantly or loses drive.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
