What it means
The current through pressure control solenoid N does not match the commanded value within tolerance.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The TCM varies current to pressure control solenoid N to regulate transmission hydraulic pressure. This code sets when the current response falls outside the expected range for the command, which can result from a heat-damaged coil, high resistance at the connector or a solenoid that no longer responds as calibrated.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Coil resistance changed by thermal stress
- High-resistance contact in solenoid connector
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Transmission warning light may illuminate
- Harsh or delayed shifting
- Slipping or unexpected shifts
- Transmission may enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare it with related solenoid or pressure codes to see whether the mismatch occurs hot, during a particular shift or under load.
- Inspect solenoid N’s connector and harness for corrosion, loose terminals, fluid intrusion or heat damage that can add resistance.
- Compare commanded solenoid N current with available measured current or scan-tool data during the conditions that set the code.
- Check coil resistance cold and hot, following the manufacturer’s test procedure, and compare the readings with its specification.
- If the coil and connector check out, test the TCM control circuit and verify solenoid and hydraulic response before considering a module fault.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure a high-resistance solenoid N connector or repair its terminals.
- Repair heat-damaged or corroded wiring in the solenoid N control circuit.
- Replace pressure control solenoid N if its hot or cold coil reading is outside specification or its response is out of range.
- Repair the TCM circuit or replace the module only after the solenoid, wiring and connections pass checks.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid heavy loads, towing and hard acceleration if the transmission slips or shifts unpredictably; an out-of-range pressure command can worsen clutch wear. Stop driving if slipping becomes severe or the vehicle cannot shift reliably.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
