OBD-II fault code

P27CE: Pressure Control Solenoid R Control Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The control circuit for pressure control solenoid R is not performing within the expected range.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Pressure control solenoid R adjusts transmission hydraulic pressure when commanded by the transmission control module. P27CE sets when the module sees solenoid R circuit behavior outside its expected operating range, which can result from a weak coil or excess resistance in the connection or wiring.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Solenoid coil resistance out of specification
  2. High-resistance connection in solenoid wiring or connector
  3. Fault in the control circuit

Symptoms

  • Transmission warning light may illuminate
  • Harsh or delayed shifting
  • Slipping or unexpected shifts
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and review related transmission codes to identify the conditions and shifts associated with the solenoid R range/performance fault.
  2. Inspect the solenoid R connector and wiring for corrosion, loose terminals, heat damage, or other signs of resistance in the circuit.
  3. Check connector terminal contact and control-wire continuity, looking for voltage drop or resistance that changes when the harness is moved.
  4. Measure solenoid R coil resistance and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Use scan-tool data to compare commanded solenoid R operation with the available circuit or transmission response data under the conditions that set the code.
  6. If the coil and harness pass, test the solenoid R control circuit at the module connector according to the wiring diagram.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure high-resistance contacts at the solenoid R connector.
  • Repair corroded, damaged, or high-resistance wiring in the solenoid R circuit.
  • Replace solenoid R if its coil resistance is outside the manufacturer's specification.
  • Repair the control circuit if testing identifies an electrical fault between the solenoid and module.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid towing, steep climbs, and hard acceleration if the transmission slips or shifts unpredictably. Solenoid R pressure control may be ineffective, and continued slipping can overheat or damage the transmission.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
