What it means
The current through pressure control solenoid P does not match the commanded value within tolerance. Coil resistance drift or high-resistance contact.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The transmission control module adjusts current to Pressure Control Solenoid P to regulate hydraulic pressure. This code sets when measured current does not track the commanded value within the expected range, which can result from an out-of-specification coil, a high-resistance connection, or another control-circuit fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Solenoid coil resistance out of specification
- High-resistance connection in solenoid wiring or connector
- Fault in the control circuit
Symptoms
- Transmission warning light may illuminate
- Harsh or delayed shifting
- Slipping or unexpected shifts
- Transmission may enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare the commanded Solenoid P operation with available transmission pressure and shift data.
- Inspect the Solenoid P connector and harness for corrosion, loose terminals, heat damage, or fluid contamination that could add resistance.
- Measure Solenoid P coil resistance and compare it with the manufacturer’s specification.
- Check voltage drop or circuit resistance across the Solenoid P wiring and connections under the conditions specified by the manufacturer.
- If the coil and wiring pass, verify the module’s command and output using the vehicle’s service procedure before condemning the module.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure a high-resistance Solenoid P connector.
- Repair corroded or damaged wiring in the Solenoid P control circuit.
- Replace Pressure Control Solenoid P if its coil is outside specification.
- Repair the control module circuit only if tests isolate the fault to the module.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving because incorrect pressure control can cause slipping, harsh shifts, or limp mode and may damage internal transmission parts. Avoid towing and stop if the transmission loses drive or slips heavily.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
