OBD-II fault code

P2737: Pressure Control Solenoid F Control Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The current through pressure control solenoid F does not match the commanded value within tolerance.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Pressure control solenoid F adjusts hydraulic pressure in response to the TCM's electrical command. P2737 sets when the circuit's measured response falls outside the expected range or performance window, which can result from an electrical issue or inconsistent solenoid operation.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Coil resistance changed by thermal stress
  2. High-resistance contact in solenoid connector
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Slipping or shuddering during shifts
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare solenoid F command and available circuit or pressure data with the shift conditions when the code set.
  2. Check transmission fluid level and condition using the manufacturer's procedure, since fluid problems can affect pressure behavior.
  3. Inspect solenoid F's connector and wiring for corrosion, loose contacts, fluid intrusion, or heat damage that could add resistance.
  4. Check circuit continuity and connections, then measure solenoid F coil resistance against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If supported by the scan tool, compare solenoid F's commanded response with the measured response during the relevant shift.
  6. If wiring and coil tests pass, inspect solenoid F and the valve body for sticking or hydraulic restrictions.

Common fixes

  • Clean or repair high-resistance terminals at the solenoid F connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or connector seals that allow fluid or moisture in.
  • Replace solenoid F if its coil has drifted outside the manufacturer's specification.
  • Clean or repair the valve body if solenoid F cannot regulate pressure consistently.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving and avoid towing or hard acceleration if shifts are harsh or the transmission slips; continued slipping can overheat and damage internal parts. Stop if drive becomes unreliable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
