OBD-II fault code

P282D: Pressure Control Solenoid K Control Circuit/Open

What it means

The TCM detects an open circuit in the control wiring of pressure control solenoid K. No current flows when the solenoid is commanded.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Pressure control solenoid K is an electrically operated valve that controls pressure in a transmission hydraulic circuit. The TCM detects an open circuit, so current does not flow as expected when it commands solenoid K. An open coil, broken wire, or terminal pushed back in the connector can cause this code.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open in solenoid control wire
  2. Open solenoid coil
  3. Pin pushed back out of connector body

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Transmission may slip or hesitate
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Read transmission codes and freeze-frame data, then check whether the fault appears when the TCM commands solenoid K.
  2. Inspect the solenoid K connector for a pushed-back pin, loose fit, corrosion, or damaged wiring near the connector.
  3. Use the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s procedure to test continuity through the solenoid K control circuit.
  4. Check the solenoid K coil using the manufacturer’s electrical test procedure and specifications.
  5. If the coil and wiring are intact, check the TCM connector and output path for an open circuit as directed by the manufacturer.

Common fixes

  • Reseat a pushed-back or loose terminal in the solenoid K connector.
  • Repair an open or damaged solenoid K control wire.
  • Replace solenoid K if its coil is open according to the manufacturer’s test.
  • Repair the TCM connector or output path if testing locates the open there.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid towing and demanding driving because solenoid K cannot be controlled through an open circuit, which can cause harsh shifts, slipping, or limp mode. Stop if the transmission loses drive or slips severely.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
