OBD-II fault code

P282F: Pressure Control Solenoid K Control Circuit Low

What it means

The control module detects a voltage below the expected range in the pressure control solenoid K control circuit. Possible causes include a short to ground or a solenoid or wiring fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Pressure control solenoid K is operated by a control circuit that the TCM monitors while regulating transmission pressure. This code means the circuit voltage is below the expected range, which can happen if the control wire is shorted to ground or the solenoid coil is internally shorted. Corroded connector contacts can also disrupt the circuit.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Control wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal short in solenoid coil
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Transmission may slip or hesitate
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Read transmission codes and freeze-frame data, then check live data for the solenoid K command and circuit status when the low-voltage fault occurs.
  2. Inspect the solenoid K connector and harness for corrosion, fluid intrusion, crushed insulation, or contact with ground.
  3. Use the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s procedure to check whether the control wire is shorted to ground.
  4. Test the solenoid K coil and circuit for a short using the manufacturer’s electrical procedure and specifications.
  5. If the wiring and coil pass, follow the manufacturer’s procedure to check the TCM output and connector.

Common fixes

  • Clean or repair corroded solenoid K connector terminals.
  • Repair wiring that is shorted to ground or has damaged insulation.
  • Replace solenoid K if its coil is internally shorted according to the prescribed test.
  • Repair the TCM output circuit if testing confirms the fault is there.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid towing and hard acceleration because solenoid K may not regulate pressure correctly, risking slipping, harsh shifts, or limp mode. Stop if the transmission loses drive or slips badly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
