What it means
The control module detects a low signal from camshaft profile actuator position sensor C on bank 1. The signal does not reliably indicate the actuator’s position.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The camshaft profile actuator changes the engine’s valve profile, and position sensor C reports the actuator’s position to the control module. P2C0F sets when the Bank 1 sensor C signal is below its expected electrical range, preventing reliable position feedback.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
- Possible rough idle or stalling
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and check live sensor C position on Bank 1 to confirm the low reading and the conditions that set it.
- Inspect sensor C’s Bank 1 connector and wiring for corrosion, loose pins, damaged insulation, or contact with ground.
- Check the circuit’s supply, ground, and signal using the vehicle wiring information, focusing on a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Move the harness while watching the signal to locate intermittent shorts or high-resistance connections.
- If wiring and connector checks pass, test sensor C on Bank 1 for an internal short against the manufacturer’s specification.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose connector pins at Bank 1 sensor C.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or damaged sensor wiring.
- Replace sensor C on Bank 1 if it has an internal short.
- Clear the code and confirm the signal changes as the actuator moves.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving to gentle trips if the engine remains stable, and avoid hard acceleration because Bank 1 valve-profile control may be impaired. Stop if the engine stalls or loses substantial power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
