OBD-II fault code

P2C10: A Camshaft Profile Actuator Position Sensor C Circuit High Bank 1

What it means

The control module detects a high signal from camshaft profile actuator position sensor C on bank 1. The signal does not reliably indicate the actuator’s position.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The camshaft profile actuator changes the engine’s valve profile, while position sensor C reports its position to the control module. The module sets P2C10 when the Bank 1 sensor C signal is higher than its expected electrical range, so the actuator’s position cannot be confirmed reliably.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to B+
  2. Open position sensor
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and compare live sensor C position on Bank 1 with commanded actuator position to establish when the high signal appears.
  2. Inspect sensor C’s Bank 1 connector and wiring for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or insulation damage near a power feed.
  3. Check the sensor circuit’s supply, ground, and signal using the vehicle wiring information, looking for a signal wire shorted to B+.
  4. Move the harness while monitoring the signal to find an intermittent short or connection that drives it high.
  5. If the wiring and connector are sound, test sensor C on Bank 1 for an open or failed sensor against the manufacturer’s specification.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose connector pins at Bank 1 sensor C.
  • Repair a signal wire shorted to B+ or other damaged sensor wiring.
  • Replace an open or failed camshaft profile actuator position sensor C on Bank 1.
  • Clear the code and confirm sensor C tracks actuator movement.

Can I keep driving?

Drive gently only if the engine runs smoothly and responds normally; avoid hard acceleration because Bank 1 valve-profile control may be limited. Stop if it stalls or loses substantial power.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
