What it means
The current draw of reductant pump A is below the calibrated minimum for the commanded duty. Indicates open winding, partial supply interruption, or pump no longer drawing fluid (dry running).
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Reductant pump A moves diesel exhaust fluid (DEF, also called AdBlue) into the emissions system to help reduce nitrogen oxides. The control module compares pump current with the commanded operating level and sets P2C11 when pump A draws too little, which can indicate an open motor winding or a pump running without fluid load.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Pump motor winding partially open
- Pump dry running - no fluid load
Symptoms
- Check engine light or NOx warning on
- AdBlue/DEF level or quality warning
- Possible no-start countdown after ignore period
- Failed emissions inspection (NOx)
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check DEF level and any related level or quality warnings, since a low supply can leave pump A running dry.
- Inspect the pump A connector and wiring for loose connections, corrosion, damage, or an interrupted power supply.
- Use a scan tool to command pump A if supported and compare its current draw with the manufacturer’s specification.
- Check the pump supply and ground under command, then inspect the fluid feed for an empty or obstructed supply that could leave the pump dry.
- If fluid supply and wiring are sound, test pump A’s motor winding against the manufacturer’s specification for an open or failing winding.
Common fixes
- Refill the DEF tank with the correct fluid if the supply is low.
- Reconnect or repair a loose, corroded, or damaged pump A electrical connection.
- Restore an interrupted power or ground connection to reductant pump A.
- Replace pump A if its winding is open or it continues to draw too little current with adequate fluid supply.
Can I keep driving?
A short trip may be possible if the vehicle runs normally, but address the warning promptly and avoid extended driving because NOx emissions can rise. Ignoring the fault may lead to an emissions warning or a no-start countdown.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
