What it means
The control module detects a low signal from camshaft profile actuator position sensor B on bank 1. The signal does not reliably indicate the actuator’s position.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The camshaft profile actuator changes the engine’s valve profile, and position sensor B reports actuator position to the control module. P2C0B sets when the Bank 1 sensor B signal falls below its expected electrical range, leaving the module unable to confirm position.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
- Possible rough idle or stalling
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and check live sensor B position on Bank 1 to confirm the low reading and the conditions when it occurs.
- Inspect sensor B’s Bank 1 connector and wiring for corrosion, damaged insulation, loose pins, or a wire contacting ground.
- Check the sensor circuit’s supply, ground, and signal using the vehicle wiring information, looking for a signal short to ground.
- Monitor the signal while moving the harness to find intermittent shorts or poor connections that keep it low.
- If the circuit wiring is sound, test sensor B on Bank 1 for an internal short against the manufacturer’s specification.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose sensor B connector pins on Bank 1.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or damaged sensor wiring.
- Replace sensor B on Bank 1 if it has an internal short.
- Clear the code and verify the signal responds as the actuator moves.
Can I keep driving?
Drive only gently if the engine remains stable; avoid hard acceleration because Bank 1 valve-profile control may be impaired. Stop if the engine stalls or loses substantial power, since continuing could leave you without reliable engine response.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
