What it means
The control module detects a high signal from camshaft profile actuator position sensor B on bank 1. The signal does not reliably indicate the actuator’s position.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The camshaft profile actuator changes the engine’s valve profile, and position sensor B reports the actuator’s position to the control module. The module sets P2C0C when the Bank 1 sensor B signal rises above its expected electrical range, so it cannot reliably track actuator position.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to B+
- Open position sensor
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
- Possible rough idle or stalling
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare live sensor B position on Bank 1 with commanded actuator position to see when the high reading occurs.
- Inspect sensor B’s Bank 1 wiring and connector for corrosion, loose pins, insulation damage, or contact with a power feed.
- Check the sensor circuit’s supply, ground, and signal using the vehicle wiring information, looking for a signal wire shorted to B+.
- Move the harness while monitoring the signal to identify an intermittent high reading or poor connection.
- If the wiring and connector are sound, test sensor B on Bank 1 for an open or failed sensor against the manufacturer’s specification.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose connector pins at Bank 1 sensor B.
- Repair wiring shorted to B+ or damaged wiring in the sensor B circuit.
- Replace an open or failed camshaft profile actuator position sensor B on Bank 1.
- Clear the code and confirm sensor B tracks actuator movement.
Can I keep driving?
Drive gently only if the engine runs smoothly; avoid hard acceleration because Bank 1 valve-profile control may be limited. Stop if it stalls, loses substantial power, or enters limp mode.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
