What it means
Position sensor A for camshaft profile actuator A on bank 1 has a circuit-low fault. Cam profile selection feedback may be unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Camshaft profile actuator A on bank 1 selects a cam profile, and position sensor A reports the actuator’s position to the control module. P2C07 sets when that sensor’s signal voltage is below its expected range, indicating a low circuit reading rather than simply an inaccurate position.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
- Possible rough idle or stalling
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live data for bank 1 sensor A’s position signal to confirm when the low reading occurs.
- Inspect the sensor A connector and harness at camshaft profile actuator A on bank 1 for a signal wire rubbed through to ground or damaged by heat or oil.
- Check connector pins for corrosion, poor contact, or loose fit that could pull down the signal.
- With the circuit powered down as specified by the manufacturer, test sensor A’s signal wire for a short to ground and verify continuity.
- If the wiring and connector pass, test sensor A’s output and compare it with the manufacturer’s specification to identify an internal sensor short.
Common fixes
- Clean or repair corroded or loose connector terminals at bank 1 sensor A.
- Repair the sensor A signal wire shorted to ground.
- Replace position sensor A on bank 1 if its output remains low with sound wiring.
- Repair the affected actuator wiring if heat or oil damage has compromised insulation.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving and avoid hard acceleration because cam profile control and mid-range power may be affected; stop if the engine stalls or loses substantial power. Continued operation can worsen drivability and fuel consumption.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
