What it means
The control circuit for pressure control solenoid P is reporting a low electrical condition.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The control module drives Pressure Control Solenoid P through an electrical circuit to regulate transmission pressure. This code sets when the circuit signal is electrically low; a wire shorted to ground, an internally shorted coil, or poor contact at corroded pins can pull the circuit below its expected level.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to ground
- Internal short in solenoid coil
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Transmission warning light may illuminate
- Harsh or delayed shifting
- Transmission may enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check for other low-circuit codes that could reveal a shared wiring or supply problem.
- Inspect the Solenoid P connector and harness for corrosion, exposed conductors, pinched insulation, or a wire contacting ground.
- Disconnect the solenoid as directed by the service procedure and check whether the low-circuit condition changes, helping distinguish a coil fault from a harness fault.
- Measure Solenoid P coil resistance against the manufacturer’s specification to check for an internal short.
- Test the control wire for a short to ground and check connector contact condition before testing the module output.
Common fixes
- Clean corroded terminals and restore secure contact at the Solenoid P connector.
- Repair the control wire where it is shorted to ground or its insulation is damaged.
- Replace Pressure Control Solenoid P if its coil is internally shorted.
- Repair the control module circuit only if wiring and solenoid tests pass.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and heavy loads because incorrect pressure control can cause harsh shifts or limp mode. Stop driving if the transmission slips significantly or shifts become unpredictable.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
