What it means
The control circuit for pressure control solenoid N is reporting a low electrical condition.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The TCM controls pressure control solenoid N through an electrical circuit to regulate transmission pressure. This code sets when the circuit reports a low electrical condition, which can be caused by a control wire shorted to ground, an internally shorted coil or a poor corroded connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to ground
- Internal short in solenoid coil
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Transmission warning light may illuminate
- Harsh or delayed shifting
- Transmission may enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and scan for related solenoid codes to determine whether the low condition is isolated to solenoid N or part of a wider circuit problem.
- Inspect the solenoid N connector and harness for corrosion, damaged insulation, pinched wiring or contact with ground.
- Check the connector pins for corrosion and poor contact, since high contact resistance can disrupt the solenoid N control circuit.
- Test solenoid N coil resistance and the control wire for a short to ground using the manufacturer’s wiring diagram and specifications.
- If the solenoid and harness pass, check the TCM output circuit and grounds for a fault that could create the low reading.
Common fixes
- Clean corroded terminals and restore secure contact at the solenoid N connector.
- Repair the control wire where it is shorted to ground or damaged.
- Replace pressure control solenoid N if its coil is internally shorted or outside specification.
- Repair the TCM output circuit or replace the module only if the external circuit tests pass.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid towing and hard acceleration if shifting is harsh or the transmission enters limp mode, because solenoid N may not regulate pressure as commanded. If the transmission slips badly or loses drive, stop safely and arrange assistance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
