OBD-II fault code

C0544: Brake Pressure Sensor B Circuit/Open

What it means

The ABS module monitors the circuit for brake pressure sensor B and sets this code when it detects an open circuit.

How it works

Brake pressure sensor B provides a pressure signal to the ABS module for brake control decisions. This code sets when the module detects an open circuit in sensor B's circuit, so it cannot reliably receive the signal.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wire broken
  2. Pin pushed back out of connector body
  3. Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • Traction or stability control warning light on
  • ABS functions may be limited

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan the ABS module for related codes and freeze-frame data to establish when the sensor B circuit fault was detected.
  2. Inspect sensor B's connector for a terminal pushed back into the housing, loose fit, corrosion, or water entry.
  3. Trace the sensor B wiring and look for a break, damaged insulation, or a poor splice between the sensor and module.
  4. Use the vehicle wiring information to test continuity through the sensor B circuit and check connections at both ends.
  5. If the wiring and terminals are intact, test the sensor and module connections for an internal open using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a terminal that has backed out of the sensor B connector.
  • Repair a broken sensor B wire or damaged splice.
  • Clean or replace corroded connector terminals and restore their secure fit.
  • Repair an internal sensor or module connection only after circuit testing identifies it.

Can I keep driving?

The brakes may remain usable, but ABS and related traction or stability functions may be limited. Drive gently and allow more distance for stopping until the circuit is repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
