What it means
Brake pressure sensor A signal voltage above expected range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
How it works
Brake Pressure Sensor A sends a pressure-related electrical signal to the ABS module. C053F sets when that signal rises above the expected range, which can happen if the signal circuit is open or shorted to a power source.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire open or short to power
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- Traction or stability control warning light on
- ABS functions may be limited
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame and live ABS data to confirm Sensor A is reporting high and compare it with Sensor B or other pressure readings if available.
- Inspect Sensor A's connector for a loose plug, corrosion, water intrusion, or a terminal pushed back.
- Trace Sensor A's harness for an open conductor, damaged insulation, or contact with a power feed.
- Using the wiring diagram, test the signal, reference, and ground circuits for an open or short to power and compare readings with the manufacturer's specification.
- Wiggle the harness while watching live Sensor A data to identify an intermittent connection.
- If wiring checks out, test Sensor A and verify that actual hydraulic pressure is plausible.
Common fixes
- Reseat the Sensor A connector and repair a loose or corroded terminal.
- Repair an open signal wire or wiring short to a power source.
- Restore a damaged reference or ground connection if testing identifies one.
- Replace Brake Pressure Sensor A if its signal remains high with correct wiring and plausible hydraulic pressure.
Can I keep driving?
ABS, traction control, or stability control may be limited because the module cannot trust Sensor A's pressure signal. Drive cautiously, avoid hard braking where possible, and stop if the brake pedal feels abnormal or braking performance changes.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
