What it means
The control module monitors the brake pressure sensor H circuit. It sets this code when it detects an open circuit in the sensor signal path.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Brake pressure sensor H sends a pressure signal to the brake control module for ABS and stability control. C0639 sets when the module detects an open in sensor H’s signal path, such as a broken wire, backed-out terminal, or failed connection inside the sensor or module.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wire broken
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
- Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check the scan tool for sensor H’s live reading and related brake system codes.
- Inspect sensor H’s connector for a terminal pushed back into the housing, corrosion, moisture, or a loose fit.
- Follow sensor H’s harness and look for a broken wire or damaged section, especially near bends and connector strain points.
- Check continuity through the sensor H signal path and verify connector engagement using the vehicle’s wiring diagram.
- If the external circuit is intact, test sensor H and the module connection for an internal open using the manufacturer’s procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair or replace a broken section of sensor H wiring.
- Reseat or replace a backed-out or damaged connector terminal.
- Clean and repair corroded sensor H connector contacts and restore the seal.
- Replace sensor H or repair the module connection if an internal open is confirmed.
Can I keep driving?
The brakes may still work, but ABS and stability control can be unavailable and brake assist may be reduced. Drive only as needed and cautiously; stop if braking feels abnormal and arrange prompt diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
