OBD-II fault code

C0543: Brake Pressure Sensor B Circuit High

What it means

Brake pressure sensor B signal voltage above expected range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

How it works

Brake pressure sensor B reports hydraulic pressure to the brake control module, which uses the reading when managing ABS and stability functions. This code sets when sensor B's signal is higher than the module's expected range, which can happen if the signal circuit is open or shorted to power.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire open or short to power
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • Traction or stability control warning light on
  • ABS functions may be limited

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to record the ABS module's freeze-frame data and compare the live reading for brake pressure sensor B with other pressure data, if available.
  2. Inspect sensor B's connector and harness for chafing, water intrusion, corrosion, pushed-back pins, or contact with a power wire.
  3. With the code active, gently move the harness while watching the sensor B reading to see whether it changes or drops out.
  4. Using the vehicle wiring information, check the sensor B signal wire for an open or short to power and inspect its supply wiring for pinching against a B+ source.
  5. If wiring and connections pass, test sensor B and the ABS module inputs according to the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair chafed or pinched wiring at the sensor B circuit.
  • Clean or repair corroded, loose, or pushed-back connector terminals.
  • Restore an open or shorted signal wire connection.
  • Replace a faulty brake pressure sensor B if circuit tests confirm it is defective.

Can I keep driving?

The vehicle may still brake, but ABS, traction control, or stability functions can be limited while the warning is on. Drive cautiously, leave extra stopping distance, and avoid conditions where ABS or stability assistance may be needed.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
