What is the MINI Coupé?

The MINI Coupé was a compact two-seat sports car with a low, distinctive roof and a stepped rear end. Its cabin was arranged for two, giving it a more focused shape than the familiar MINI hatchback. An active rear spoiler extended automatically as the car picked up speed.

The first-generation Coupé, code R58, ran from 2012 to 2015. Its unusual roofline and compact proportions gave the model a distinctive place in MINI’s range.

Engines and power

In EU figures, the Coupé’s petrol and diesel engines ranged from 1.6 to 2.0 litres, with power from 90 kW (122 PS) to 155 kW (211 PS). The range included Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works versions.

UK and French figures also cover petrol and diesel models. US and Canadian figures list 1.6-litre petrol versions, reflecting differences in the line-up between markets.

How economical is the MINI Coupé?

The lowest listed consumption in UK VCA figures is 4.3 L/100 km on the NEDC test. The French ADEME figure also bottoms out at 4.3 L/100 km on NEDC. In the US, the lowest EPA figure is 7.4 L/100 km, with a best combined rating of 32 MPG. Canada’s lowest listed NRCan figure is 7.2 L/100 km on the 5-cycle test.

The market figures use different procedures: NEDC in the European and UK entries, EPA in the US and the 5-cycle method in Canada. Compare results within each market because the test methods differ.

Where was the MINI Coupé sold?

Official figures cover the European Union, the United Kingdom, France, the United States and Canada. EU registration entries span 2011–2016; the UK figures cover 2012–2016, France 2012–2014, and the US and Canada 2012–2015. In EU registration figures, the 1.6-litre petrol version rated at 90 kW (122 PS) was among the leading entries in 2013 and 2014–2015.
