What is the Citroën C4?

The Citroën C4 is a compact car that sits above the smaller C3 in the brand’s range. Its first two generations were conventional compact hatchbacks, while the current generation has a higher-riding, crossover-influenced shape. The model has also explored different body styles, including a distinctive coupé in its first generation.

Citroën has long given its cars distinctive styling and a comfort-focused character. The third-generation C4 arrived in 2020 with an all-electric ë-C4 alongside petrol and diesel versions; hybrid choices have also featured in the range.

C4 generations

The first generation ran from 2004 to 2010, followed by the second from 2010 to 2018. The third generation began in 2020 and continues today. The first two generations were compact hatchbacks, while the latest adopted a higher-riding, crossover-influenced design.

Engines, power and official consumption

EU figures cover 1.2-litre to 2.0-litre engines and outputs from 57 kW (77 PS) to 120 kW (163 PS). Fuel types include petrol, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric, LPG and other. In the UK, the range spans 1.2-litre to 2.0-litre engines and 69 kW (93 PS) to 156 kW (212 PS), with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric versions. French figures list a 1.5-litre engine and outputs from 68 kW (92 PS) to 115 kW (156 PS), as well as electric versions.

The lowest listed EU consumption for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions is 4.4 L/100 km on WLTP. The EU plug-in hybrid figure is 4.7 L/100 km WLTP, an official weighted result that assumes part of the driving is electric. The lowest listed UK figure is 3.3 L/100 km on NEDC; France’s is 3.6 L/100 km on NEDC. WLTP and NEDC are different European test procedures, so their results are not directly comparable.

Where was the C4 sold?

EU figures cover 2010–2025, the UK series 2006–2026 and the French series 2012–2026. EU registrations total 1,667,651 over the period. The most registered listed EU configuration was a 1.6-litre diesel rated at 82 kW (111 PS), with 119,918 registrations in 2011.

Official figures are measured on standard test procedures and differ between markets. Your consumption depends on how, where and in what conditions you drive.
