What kind of car is the Suzuki SX4?

The SX4 is a compact crossover, blending passenger-car character with SUV-inspired styling. Some versions have four-wheel drive. Suzuki introduced it in Europe as a five-door hatchback with an optional 4x4 system, giving the range a place between a conventional compact car and an SUV. The later SX4 S-Cross carried the crossover concept into a more SUV-shaped model.

SX4 generations

The first generation is listed as 2010–2013, followed by the second from 2013–2021 and the third since 2021. The second generation arrived as the SX4 S-Cross, a crossover between passenger car and SUV. In 2021, Suzuki launched the all-new S-Cross as a complete changeover from the SX4 S-Cross. The SX4 name thus spans the original compact crossover and the S-Cross models that followed.

Engines, power and official economy

Engine sizes range from 1.0 L to 2.0 L in the EU and from 1.5 L to 2.0 L in UK listings. The French range covers 1.4 L to 1.5 L, with power from 75 kW (102 PS) to 99 kW (135 PS); EU power figures run from 75 kW (102 PS) to 123 kW (167 PS). UK listings include petrol and diesel, while European listings also include hybrid and other fuel entries depending on market and year. US and Canadian figures cover 2.0 L petrol versions.

The lowest stated EU consumption is 5.5 L/100 km on WLTP for petrol, diesel or hybrid versions. France’s lowest listed figure is 4.2 L/100 km on NEDC, and the UK’s is 5.3 L/100 km on NEDC. The best US EPA figure is 28 MPG combined; Canada’s lowest is 8.4 L/100 km on the NRCan 5-cycle test. WLTP and NEDC in Europe, EPA in the US and Canada’s 5-cycle procedure use different methods, so results are best understood within their market.

Where was the SX4 sold?

The SX4 appears in official figures for the EU, UK, France, the United States and Canada. EU figures cover 2010–2025, UK 2006–2014, France 2012–2026, and the US and Canada 2007–2013. Suzuki introduced the SX4 crossover in Europe in 2006; the SX4 Sedan followed. In Europe, the SX4 S-Cross name carried the crossover line forward.
