OBD-II fault code

P2E0A: Gear Lever Position Sensor C Circuit Low

What it means

The gear lever position sensor C reports a circuit low fault. Selector position cannot be measured reliably.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Gear lever position sensor C sends a signal used to determine the selected gear. P2E0A sets when the module sees sensor C's circuit voltage too low, which can result from a sensor fault or a poor connection such as corroded terminals with high contact resistance.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Position sensor failed
  2. Wiring or connector fault
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light
  • Incorrect gear indication
  • Difficulty selecting or engaging a gear

How to diagnose it

  1. Capture freeze-frame data and monitor sensor C's live signal to confirm the low reading occurs under the recorded conditions.
  2. With the vehicle safely parked, check the displayed gear against the lever position and note whether the fault affects particular positions.
  3. Inspect sensor C's connector for corrosion, moisture, spread pins, or a loose fit, and examine the nearby harness for damage.
  4. Check the sensor C signal, supply, and ground circuits for excessive resistance, shorts to ground, or open connections using the wiring diagram.
  5. Compare circuit readings and sensor output with the manufacturer's specification to determine whether the low signal comes from the sensor or its connections.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect the sensor C connector securely and route the harness away from damage.
  • Clean or repair corroded sensor C terminals and replace damaged connector parts as needed.
  • Repair a short to ground, open, or high-resistance wire in the sensor C circuit.
  • Replace sensor C if its output remains low with sound wiring and connections.

Can I keep driving?

A low sensor C signal can cause incorrect gear indication or prevent reliable gear selection, and the transmission may enter limp mode. Do not drive if the selected gear is uncertain or engagement is abnormal; otherwise, limit driving and have the circuit checked soon.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
