What it means
The gear lever position sensor B reports a circuit high fault. Selector position cannot be measured reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Gear lever position sensor B supplies the transmission control system with a signal for the selector's position. P2E07 indicates that sensor B's circuit voltage is above the expected range, which can result from a short to voltage, an open ground, or a failed sensor. It identifies a high-circuit fault at sensor B rather than a low signal or an implausible position pattern.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring or connector fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine or transmission warning light
- Incorrect gear indication
- Difficulty selecting or engaging a gear
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and live data for sensor B's signal and selector position, confirming whether the circuit reads high when the fault is set.
- Inspect sensor B's connector and harness for corrosion, spread terminals, damaged insulation, or contact with a power circuit.
- Check sensor B's ground and signal wires for an open circuit or short to voltage using the vehicle wiring diagram.
- Measure the circuit at the sensor and control-module connectors and compare readings with the manufacturer's specification.
- If wiring and ground checks pass, test sensor B through selector movement and replace it only if the output remains above specification.
Common fixes
- Repair sensor B wiring shorted to voltage or damaged insulation.
- Restore the sensor B ground and repair loose or corroded connector terminals.
- Secure or replace a damaged sensor B connector.
- Replace gear lever position sensor B if it still produces a high signal on a verified circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Do not trust the gear indication if it conflicts with the lever, and avoid driving if engagement is unreliable; the transmission may enter restricted operation or recognize an unintended position. Arrange prompt repair, especially if Park or the intended gear cannot be confirmed.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
