OBD-II fault code

P2812: Pressure Control Solenoid G Control Circuit/Open

What it means

The TCM detects an open circuit in the control wiring of pressure control solenoid G. No current flows when the solenoid is commanded.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The transmission control module sends current through the control circuit to operate pressure control solenoid G, which regulates hydraulic pressure. This code sets when the module detects an open circuit, such as a broken control wire, an open solenoid coil, or a terminal that has backed out of the connector.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open in solenoid control wire
  2. Open solenoid coil
  3. Pin pushed back out of connector body

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Transmission may slip or hesitate
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and fault records to confirm when the open-circuit fault was detected and whether it is persistent.
  2. Inspect solenoid G’s connector for a pushed-back pin, an incomplete latch, corrosion, or a wire broken near the connector.
  3. Check the control wiring for an open circuit using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and diagnostic procedure.
  4. Measure solenoid G coil resistance and compare the result with the manufacturer's specification to check for an internally open coil.
  5. If the wiring and coil pass, test the module-side control circuit and connector using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reseat the backed-out or loose solenoid G connector terminal.
  • Repair a broken or open control wire to solenoid G.
  • Replace solenoid G if its coil is open against the manufacturer's specification.
  • Repair the module-side connector or circuit if testing locates the open there.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid towing and hard acceleration because solenoid G may not regulate pressure, which can lead to harsh shifts or slipping. If the vehicle slips, loses drive, or enters limp mode, stop safely and arrange diagnosis.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
