OBD-II fault code

P2811: Pressure Control Solenoid G Intermittent

What it means

Pressure control solenoid G shows intermittent electrical or hydraulic faults. Loose connector or marginal coil.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Pressure control solenoid G regulates transmission pressure in response to commands from the transmission control module. This intermittent code sets when the electrical signal or hydraulic response from solenoid G becomes inconsistent, often as a loose connection or temperature-sensitive coil changes behavior.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Solenoid connector not fully seated
  2. Coil resistance drifts with temperature
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light
  • Intermittent harsh or delayed shifts
  • Shifting symptoms may come and go
  • Transmission may briefly enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame records and note whether the fault occurred at a particular temperature, gear, or point in a drive.
  2. Monitor solenoid G command and available pressure or shift data during a road test or workshop check to see when the response becomes inconsistent.
  3. Inspect solenoid G’s connector for incomplete seating, loose terminals, corrosion, or fluid, and check the harness for vibration-related damage.
  4. With the manufacturer's procedure, check solenoid G coil resistance when cold and again after warming if the fault is temperature-related.
  5. If the electrical connection and coil remain within specification, investigate the valve-body hydraulic response for an intermittent sticking condition.

Common fixes

  • Fully seat and secure solenoid G’s connector.
  • Repair loose or corroded connector terminals and damaged harness sections.
  • Replace solenoid G if its coil resistance changes outside the manufacturer's specification as it warms.
  • Clean or repair the valve-body passage if testing finds intermittent sticking.

Can I keep driving?

Because the fault can return without warning, avoid long trips, towing, and demanding acceleration until it is diagnosed. If harsh shifts or slipping begin, reduce driving and stop safely if the transmission enters limp mode.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
