OBD-II fault code

P2717: Pressure Control Solenoid D Intermittent

What it means

Pressure control solenoid D shows intermittent electrical or hydraulic faults. Loose connector or marginal coil.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Pressure control solenoid D adjusts hydraulic pressure in response to commands from the TCM. The module monitors its electrical and pressure response over time. P2717 sets when that response is intermittent, such as when a loose connection, vibration, or temperature-sensitive coil causes the signal or pressure control to come and go.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Solenoid connector not fully seated
  2. Coil resistance drifts with temperature
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light may be on intermittently
  • Shifting may become harsh, delayed, or inconsistent
  • Transmission may briefly enter a reduced-function mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and note whether the fault occurred during a particular temperature, speed, or shift condition.
  2. Review live data for solenoid D command and response, and see whether the reading changes as the transmission warms.
  3. Inspect the solenoid D connector for incomplete seating, corrosion, fluid, or terminals that may lose contact.
  4. With the vehicle safely stationary, check the harness and connector for an intermittent reading while gently moving the wiring as permitted by the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the connection is sound, test solenoid D coil readings cold and warm against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Fully seat and secure the solenoid D connector.
  • Clean or repair corroded, loose, or damaged connector terminals.
  • Repair wiring that loses continuity with movement or vibration.
  • Replace solenoid D if its coil reading becomes inconsistent with temperature.

Can I keep driving?

Shifting may become inconsistent without warning, so avoid towing and pay close attention to any loss of drive or gear engagement. If the transmission enters reduced-function mode or begins slipping, stop safely and arrange service.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
