What it means
The transmission control module monitors the electrical operation of pressure control solenoid P for consistency. It sets this code when the circuit or solenoid operation is intermittently outside the expected range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Pressure Control Solenoid P is electrically controlled to adjust transmission hydraulic pressure. This code sets when its circuit or operation is inconsistent over time, such as when a loose connector, vibration-sensitive contact, or temperature-dependent coil resistance makes the signal intermittently fall outside the expected range.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Solenoid connector not fully seated
- Coil resistance drifts with temperature
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- Transmission warning light may illuminate
- Intermittent harsh or delayed shifting
- Transmission may intermittently enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and note whether the fault appeared during a particular shift, temperature, or vibration condition.
- Inspect the Solenoid P connector for incomplete engagement, loose or backed-out pins, corrosion, and fluid contamination.
- Trace the Solenoid P harness for rubbing, strained sections, or damage that could open the circuit as the transmission moves.
- Monitor Solenoid P circuit status and transmission data while gently moving the harness and connector to see whether the fault can be reproduced.
- Measure coil resistance cold and after the symptom occurs, comparing results with the manufacturer’s specification to check for temperature-related drift.
Common fixes
- Fully seat and secure the Solenoid P connector.
- Clean corroded terminals and repair loose or damaged connector pins.
- Repair harness sections that intermittently open or short during movement.
- Replace Pressure Control Solenoid P if its coil resistance changes outside specification as it warms.
Can I keep driving?
Use caution and keep trips short until the intermittent fault is repaired; shifting or limp mode may occur without warning. Stop driving if the transmission begins slipping or cannot shift safely.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
