What it means
Pressure control solenoid D stays in the activated state when commanded off. Affected hydraulic circuit stays pressurised.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Pressure control solenoid D regulates hydraulic pressure in a transmission circuit under TCM control. The module checks whether the solenoid stops applying pressure when it is commanded off. P2715 sets when the circuit remains pressurised despite that command, often because the spool is stuck open or its control remains electrically activated.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Solenoid spool stuck in open position
- TCM output driver stuck on
- Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement
Symptoms
- Check-engine or transmission warning light may be on
- Harsh, delayed, or slipping shifts
- Transmission may enter a reduced-function mode
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and review live data for solenoid D command and the pressure response when the module commands it off.
- Inspect the solenoid D wiring and connector for shorts, damaged insulation, corrosion, or fluid intrusion.
- Check whether the TCM is commanding solenoid D off when the pressure remains applied, to distinguish a control issue from a sticking valve.
- Test the solenoid D coil and control circuit according to the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the electrical command is correct, inspect solenoid D for a spool stuck open and check the valve body for debris or binding.
Common fixes
- Repair a shorted or damaged wire or connector in the solenoid D circuit.
- Clean or replace solenoid D if debris or wear keeps its spool open.
- Service the valve body if contamination or binding is preventing the valve from closing.
- Repair the TCM output driver only if testing confirms it continues to energise solenoid D when commanded off.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving and avoid towing or heavy acceleration because pressure that remains applied can cause harsh shifts and accelerate transmission wear. If the vehicle slips, loses drive, or shifts unpredictably, stop safely and arrange service.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
