OBD-II fault code

P2714: Pressure Control Solenoid D Performance/Stuck Off

What it means

Pressure control solenoid D is commanded on but does not produce the expected pressure. Spool stuck closed or hydraulic feed restricted.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Pressure control solenoid D controls hydraulic flow in a transmission circuit when the TCM commands it on. The module monitors whether that command produces the expected pressure response. P2714 sets when pressure does not rise or respond as expected, which can happen if the solenoid spool stays closed or its hydraulic feed is restricted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Solenoid spool stuck in closed position
  2. Hydraulic feed restricted by debris
  3. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light may be on
  • Harsh, delayed, or slipping shifts
  • Transmission may enter a reduced-function mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and use live data to confirm when solenoid D is commanded on and whether the related pressure response is missing.
  2. Inspect the transmission fluid condition and level using the vehicle's specified procedure, and check for signs of contamination.
  3. Inspect the solenoid D connector and wiring for damage or poor contact that could prevent the commanded operation.
  4. Test solenoid D electrically and compare its coil readings with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If electrical checks pass, inspect the solenoid spool and hydraulic feed for sticking, debris, or carbon buildup.

Common fixes

  • Correct the transmission fluid level if it is outside the manufacturer's specified range.
  • Repair a poor connection or damaged wire at solenoid D.
  • Clean or replace solenoid D if its spool is sticking closed.
  • Clear debris restricting the solenoid D hydraulic feed and service the valve body as required.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard acceleration, towing, and long trips while shifts are delayed or slipping, since inadequate pressure can damage clutches and other transmission parts. If the transmission loses drive or enters reduced-function mode, stop safely and arrange service.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
