OBD-II fault code

P2713: Pressure Control Solenoid D

What it means

A general fault in pressure control solenoid D. Detected via electrical resistance, response to commanded duty cycle, or downstream pressure measurement.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Pressure control solenoid D is an electrically operated valve in the transmission valve body that helps regulate hydraulic pressure. The transmission control module (TCM) checks the solenoid’s electrical response and, on some vehicles, whether pressure changes as expected. P2713 sets when the module detects a general fault in that response, without identifying a specific stuck-on, stuck-off, or open-circuit condition.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Aged solenoid coil resistance drift
  2. Worn valve body bore around the solenoid

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light may be on
  • Harsh, delayed, or slipping shifts
  • Transmission may enter a reduced-function mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to save freeze-frame data and check transmission codes and live data for solenoid D command and pressure response.
  2. Inspect the transmission connector and wiring to solenoid D for loose pins, corrosion, fluid contamination, or damage.
  3. Check solenoid D coil resistance and compare it with the manufacturer's specification, including when warm if the fault occurs after driving.
  4. If the electrical checks pass, compare commanded solenoid D operation with available transmission pressure data under the manufacturer's test conditions.
  5. If pressure does not respond as expected, inspect solenoid D and its valve body bore for wear or binding.

Common fixes

  • Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged solenoid D connector or wire.
  • Replace pressure control solenoid D if its coil resistance is outside the manufacturer's specification.
  • Repair a worn valve body bore that prevents solenoid D from regulating pressure.
  • Replace or service the valve body if wear or binding remains after the solenoid is addressed.

Can I keep driving?

If shifts are harsh, delayed, or slipping, avoid towing, heavy loads, and long trips; continued slipping can worsen transmission damage. If the vehicle enters reduced-function mode or cannot shift reliably, stop somewhere safe and arrange service.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
