What it means
The transmission control module monitors whether pressure control solenoid F releases when commanded off. This code sets when the solenoid appears to remain activated despite that command.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Pressure control solenoid F regulates hydraulic pressure in the transmission when the TCM commands it on or off. The module monitors the solenoid's response and sets P2733 when it appears to stay activated after an off command, which can leave pressure too high or disrupt shifts.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Solenoid spool stuck in open position
- TCM output driver stuck on
- Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement
Symptoms
- Check-engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh or delayed shifts
- Slipping or shuddering during shifts
- Transmission may enter limp mode
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check commanded state and transmission pressure data for solenoid F before clearing the code.
- Check the transmission fluid level and condition using the vehicle maker's procedure, since low or contaminated fluid can worsen shift symptoms.
- Inspect solenoid F's connector and harness for fluid intrusion, corrosion, damaged insulation, or loose pins.
- With the wiring diagram, check the solenoid F circuit for unwanted power while the scan tool commands it off.
- Test solenoid F's coil and operation against the manufacturer's specification, then check for a sticking spool or debris if electrical checks pass.
- If the solenoid and wiring check out, have the TCM output driver tested for a fault that keeps solenoid F energized.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or corroded solenoid F connector.
- Repair damaged wiring causing solenoid F to remain powered.
- Replace pressure control solenoid F if it sticks or fails its electrical or operational test.
- Clean or repair the valve body if debris is preventing solenoid F's spool from moving freely.
- Repair or replace the TCM if its solenoid F output driver is confirmed stuck on.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and long trips if shifts are harsh, delayed, or slipping; continued driving can worsen transmission damage. Stop driving if the transmission loses drive or shifts unpredictably.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
