OBD-II fault code

P2724: Pressure Control Solenoid E Stuck On

What it means

The transmission control module monitors whether pressure control solenoid E releases when commanded off. This code sets when the solenoid appears to remain activated despite that command.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Pressure control solenoid E regulates hydraulic pressure when the transmission controller switches it on and off. P2724 sets when the controller commands it off but pressure or operating data indicates that it remains activated, which can result from a stuck valve or an electrical driver that stays on.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Solenoid spool stuck in open position
  2. TCM output driver stuck on
  3. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh or delayed shifts
  • Slipping or shuddering during shifts
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for related pressure or gear codes to determine when solenoid E appears to remain active.
  2. Check fluid level and condition, and inspect for contamination that could prevent the solenoid valve from returning freely.
  3. Inspect solenoid E wiring and connector for shorts, damaged insulation, corrosion, or loose terminals.
  4. Compare live solenoid E commands with pressure and gear response to confirm whether the valve remains active after an off command.
  5. Test the solenoid and controller output against the manufacturer's specification to distinguish a mechanically stuck valve from a circuit driver fault.

Common fixes

  • Service contaminated fluid if the manufacturer's procedure supports it.
  • Repair wiring or connector damage that keeps solenoid E energized.
  • Replace pressure control solenoid E if its valve is confirmed stuck.
  • Repair the controller output circuit if it continues to energize the solenoid despite an off command.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid towing or hard acceleration if the transmission shifts harshly or slips, and limit driving if gear behavior is unpredictable. A solenoid that stays active can cause incorrect pressure and worsen transmission wear.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
