What it means
Brake pressure sensor A signal voltage below expected range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
How it works
Brake Pressure Sensor A converts hydraulic pressure into an electrical signal that the ABS module monitors. C053E sets when Sensor A's signal circuit reads below the expected range, which can result from a short to ground or excessive resistance in the connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- Traction or stability control warning light on
- ABS functions may be limited
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame and live ABS data to confirm Sensor A is reporting low while checking whether Sensor B or other pressure data appears normal.
- Inspect Sensor A's connector seals and terminals for water, corrosion, loose fit, or a pin pushed back.
- Follow Sensor A's harness and look for chafing or crushed insulation that could let the signal wire contact ground.
- With the wiring diagram, check Sensor A's reference, ground, and signal circuits for a short to ground or poor connection, comparing readings with the manufacturer's specification.
- Wiggle the harness near the sensor and module while monitoring live data to see whether the low signal changes.
- If the circuit is intact, test Sensor A's output and hydraulic pressure to separate a sensor fault from a pressure issue.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure Sensor A connector terminals or replace damaged seals.
- Repair chafed wiring or a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Repair a poor ground or other high-resistance connection in Sensor A's circuit.
- Replace Brake Pressure Sensor A if its output remains low with a sound circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Basic braking may remain, but ABS and related stability functions can be limited because Sensor A's signal is too low to use reliably. Drive gently with extra stopping distance, and stop if braking feel or performance changes.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
