What it means
Brake pressure sensor G signal voltage below expected range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Brake pressure sensor G reports hydraulic pressure to the brake control module, which uses the reading to manage ABS and stability functions. The module sets C0637 when sensor G’s signal falls below its expected range, often because the signal circuit is grounded or its connection is impaired.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and compare sensor G’s live pressure reading with the other available brake pressure readings.
- With the code active, gently move the sensor G harness and connector while watching its live signal for dropouts that point to an intermittent connection.
- Inspect sensor G’s wiring for chafing, damaged insulation, moisture, corrosion, and terminals pushed back in the connector.
- Check the sensor G signal wire for a short to ground and inspect connector contact condition, following the vehicle’s wiring diagram.
- If wiring and connections are sound, test sensor G and its module connections against the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair chafed or damaged sensor G wiring.
- Clean or repair corroded or loose connector terminals and restore the connector seal.
- Repair a signal wire short to ground.
- Replace a faulty sensor G or repair a confirmed module connection fault.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may still have basic braking, but ABS and stability control can be unavailable and brake assist may be affected. Avoid high speeds and hard braking, and arrange prompt diagnosis; stop driving if braking feels abnormal.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
