What is the Maserati Quattroporte?

The Quattroporte is Maserati’s large four-door saloon, combining a spacious body with the marque’s sporting character. Its name means “four doors” in Italian. First introduced in 1963, it helped establish the luxury sports saloon as part of Maserati’s range. It sits above the Ghibli among the marque’s saloons.

The generations represented here are Quattroporte III (1979–1990), code AM330; Quattroporte V (2004–2012), code M139; and Quattroporte VI (2013–present), code M156. The sixth generation continued the name in a large saloon with a focus on comfort and performance.

Engines and power

In EU figures, engines range from 3.0 to 4.7 litres and power from 184 kW (250 PS) to 427 kW (581 PS). Petrol and diesel versions appear alongside other fuel classifications. Engine choices varied by generation and market.

The 3.0-litre diesel producing 202 kW (275 PS) featured prominently in EU registrations. UK listings cover 3.0- to 4.7-litre petrol and diesel models, with power from 189 kW (257 PS) to 316 kW (430 PS). US figures include petrol engines from 3.0 to 4.9 litres; Canadian figures cover 3.0 to 4.7 litres.

Fuel consumption

The lowest listed EU consumption is 11.4 L/100 km on WLTP. The lowest UK and French figures are 6.2 L/100 km on NEDC. WLTP and NEDC are different European test procedures, so their results are not directly interchangeable.

The US low is 11.8 L/100 km, with an EPA rating of 20 MPG combined. Canada’s low is 12 L/100 km on NRCan’s 5-cycle test. EPA and Canadian 5-cycle procedures also differ from European tests.

Where was the Quattroporte sold?

The Quattroporte appears in official figures for the European Union, the UK, France, the United States and Canada. EU figures span 2010 onward; French listings span 2012–2015; UK listings span 2006–2026; and US and Canadian figures span 1984–2024 and 2005 onward, respectively. The sixth generation has been built since 2013.

EU registrations total 9,105 Quattroportes. The model has given Maserati a large four-door saloon, carrying the name’s blend of space, comfort and sporting character.
