What is the Maserati Ghibli?

The Ghibli is a four-door saloon that brought Maserati into a more compact part of its saloon range. It pairs an everyday layout with the Italian marque’s grand-touring character. Introduced in 2013, it sat below the larger Quattroporte. The Ghibli name had previously belonged to two-door grand tourers; this generation gave it a very different shape and role.

This generation, Ghibli III (M157), has been built since 2013. Over its run, the range grew from petrol and diesel choices to include a four-cylinder hybrid. The hybrid, introduced in 2020, was Maserati’s first electrified model.

Engines and power

In EU figures, the Ghibli spans engines from 2.0 to 3.8 litres and power from 184 kW (250 PS) to 427 kW (581 PS). The listed fuel types include petrol, hybrid, diesel, plug-in hybrid and other. These are the range’s overall endpoints; individual versions varied.

The 3.0-litre diesel producing 202 kW (275 PS) featured prominently in EU registrations. In the UK, listed petrol and diesel models have 3.0-litre engines and power from 189 kW (257 PS) to 316 kW (430 PS). US and Canadian listings cover petrol engines from 3.0 to 3.8 litres.

Fuel consumption

The lowest listed EU consumption is 7.2 L/100 km on the WLTP test. UK and French listings give a low of 5.9 L/100 km on NEDC. WLTP and NEDC are different European test procedures, so their results are not directly interchangeable.

The lowest listed US figure is 11.8 L/100 km, with an EPA rating of 20 MPG combined. Canada’s lowest is 11.6 L/100 km on NRCan’s 5-cycle test. The EPA and Canadian 5-cycle procedures also differ from European tests.

Where was the Ghibli sold?

The Ghibli appears in official figures for the European Union, the UK, France, the United States and Canada. EU figures span 2013–2025; UK and French figures span 2014–2026; and US and Canadian figures span 2014 onward. These periods vary by market.

EU registrations total 41,866 Ghiblis. As Maserati’s smaller four-door saloon, the Ghibli brought the marque’s style and grand-touring focus to a more compact format than the Quattroporte.
