What is the Discovery Sport?

The Discovery Sport is a compact family SUV in Land Rover’s Discovery line. An optional third row gives it a five-plus-two seating layout, making it handy when a household sometimes needs extra seats as well as everyday SUV space.

The model launched in 2014. Its first listed generation runs from 2015 to 2019, and the second from 2020 onward. Both use the L550 designation; the later version is an updated phase of the same model.

Engines and power

In EU registrations, engine sizes range from 1.5 to 2.2 litres and power from 110 kW (150 PS) to 213 kW (290 PS). The range has included petrol, diesel, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, alongside other fuel classifications. The 2.0-litre diesel rated at 110 kW (150 PS) was among the most registered EU versions in several years.

US and Canadian figures cover 2.0-litre engines. US listings include petrol and hybrid versions; Canadian listings cover petrol.

How economical is the Discovery Sport?

The lowest EU figure for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions is 5.7 L/100 km on WLTP. For plug-in hybrids, the lowest weighted WLTP figure is 1.5 L/100 km, assuming some driving is electric. In the UK, the lowest listed figure is 4.7 L/100 km on NEDC. The lowest US EPA figure is 10.7 L/100 km, or 22 MPG combined; Canada’s lowest figure is 10.5 L/100 km on its 5-cycle test.

WLTP and NEDC in Europe, EPA in the US and Canada’s 5-cycle test use different procedures, so results from different markets are not directly comparable.

Where was the Discovery Sport sold?

Official figures are available for the European Union, the UK, the United States and Canada. EU registrations span 2014–2025 and total 413,958 cars. The 2.0-litre diesel rated at 110 kW (150 PS) was among the leading versions in several years.
