What is the Ford EcoSport?
The EcoSport is a compact SUV with a raised driving position and a practical cabin in a small-car footprint. Ford developed it in South America and introduced it to Europe as an urban SUV, adding it to the smaller end of its range. Its upright shape and flexible interior make it suited to everyday driving and carrying passengers or luggage.
The EcoSport first appeared in South America, where Ford says it helped establish the compact SUV category in Brazil. The second generation brought the model to a wider set of markets, including Europe and North America.
Generations and engines
The second-generation EcoSport ran from 2013 to 2022. During that time, Ford updated its styling and cabin equipment. In Europe, the small EcoBoost petrol engine was a notable part of the range.
EU figures cover engines from 1.0 to 1.5 litres and power from 66 kW (90 PS) to 103 kW (140 PS). UK figures cover the same engine-size range, with power from 67 kW (91 PS) to 103 kW (140 PS). US and Canadian figures include petrol engines up to 2.0 litres.
How economical is the Ford EcoSport?
The lowest listed EU figure is 4 L/100 km on the WLTP test. The UK minimum is 4.1 L/100 km under NEDC, while France’s is 4.6 L/100 km under NEDC. WLTP and NEDC are different European test procedures, so figures are best considered within their own market.
The lowest listed figure is 8.4 L/100 km in both the US EPA ratings and Canada’s NRCan 5-cycle test. These results reflect different market offerings and test procedures.
Where was the EcoSport sold?
EU registration figures cover the EcoSport from 2013 to 2024. The UK, France, US and Canadian figures cover their respective recorded periods. Ford described the EcoSport as its first global model developed entirely in South America, reflecting its roots in the region and its later expansion to other markets.
