What is the Ford B-Max?

The Ford B-Max is a small five-seat people carrier with a taller cabin and easy passenger access. It sat among Ford’s smaller family cars in Europe, below the C-Max, and offered a practical layout in a compact package.

Its distinctive Easy Access Door System pairs front-hinged front doors with sliding rear doors. The central pillars are integrated into the doors, leaving a wide opening when all four are open. Ford built the B-Max on its B platform and sold it as a single generation from 2012 to 2017.

Engines and power

In European Union registrations from 2012 to 2018, B-Max versions had engines from 1.0 L to 1.6 L and outputs from 55 kW (75 PS) to 116 kW (158 PS). The range included petrol, diesel, LPG and other fuel types. In the UK from 2012 to 2018, engines also ranged from 1.0 L to 1.6 L, with power from 55 kW (75 PS) to 103 kW (140 PS). France’s 2013–2015 range covered 55 kW (75 PS) to 92 kW (125 PS).

The 1.0 L petrol engine was among the B-Max’s notable choices. Ford offered its three-cylinder EcoBoost engine in the model.

How economical is the Ford B-Max?

The lowest listed UK consumption was 3.8 L/100 km on the NEDC test. In France, the lowest listed figure was 4 L/100 km, also on NEDC. These figures include petrol, diesel and hybrid versions as grouped in the market summaries; they are test-cycle ratings, not a promise of everyday consumption. Test procedures differ: Europe has used NEDC and WLTP across different periods, while the USA uses EPA testing and Canada uses the 5-cycle test.

Official EU registration figures cover 60 versions from 2012 to 2018 and show 529,086 registrations. The UK listing spans 23 versions over 2012–2018, while France’s ADEME listing covers 17 versions from 2013 to 2015.

Where was the Ford B-Max sold?

The B-Max appears in European Union, UK and French market figures. It was part of Ford’s European family-car range, with sliding rear doors that made its compact cabin easier to access.
