What is the Hyundai ix20?
The Hyundai ix20 is a small MPV with a raised roof and an upright, practical cabin. Hyundai positioned it for the European market as a people carrier with a more flowing profile than a traditional minivan. It suits drivers who value easy access and flexible interior space in a compact car.
Hyundai developed the ix20 at its European research centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and introduced it in 2010. It was among the early models to use the company’s Fluidic Sculpture design language.
Generations and design
The ix20 had one generation, the first generation (2010–2019), known by the code JC. Its compact footprint and high roof gave it a distinctive shape. Hyundai refreshed the model during its run while keeping its small-car, practical-cabin layout.
Engines and power
Across EU registrations, ix20 engines ranged from 1.4 L to 1.6 L, with power from 57 kW (77 PS) to 99 kW (135 PS). The range included petrol, diesel and LPG versions. UK figures list petrol and diesel engines from 1.4 L to 1.6 L, with power up to 92 kW (125 PS). France’s recorded power range was 57 kW (77 PS) to 92 kW (124 PS).
Fuel consumption
The lowest stated official consumption is 4.2 L/100 km for UK versions on the NEDC test. France’s lowest stated figure is 4.3 L/100 km, also on NEDC. These are standardised test results; actual consumption varies with driving conditions.
