What kind of SUV is the Chevrolet Tahoe?

The Tahoe is Chevrolet’s full-size SUV, with space for family travel and everyday hauling. Its truck-based design and broad engine range have shaped its role in the Chevrolet lineup over successive generations.

The fifth generation began in 2021. Its redesign brought independent rear suspension, a notable change to the Tahoe’s layout. The model is strongly associated with North America and also appears in EU registration figures.

Tahoe generations

The Tahoe generations are first (1995–1999), second (2000–2006), third (2007–2014), fourth (2015–2020) and fifth (2021–today). Their platform codes are GMT400/GMT420, GMT800, GMT900/GMT920, K2XX and T1XX respectively. The fifth generation introduced independent rear suspension.

Engines, power and fuel consumption

US and Canadian figures include engines from 3.0 to 6.5 litres, with diesel, petrol and flex-fuel E85 versions; US figures also include hybrids. EU registrations list 6.2-litre versions rated at 313 kW (426 PS), with petrol, LPG and E85 fuels represented.

The lowest listed consumption is 12.3 L/100 km on the EU WLTP test, 9.8 L/100 km in US EPA figures and 9.8 L/100 km on Canada’s 5-cycle test. WLTP, EPA and Canada’s 5-cycle procedures differ, so these results are not direct comparisons.

Where is the Tahoe sold?

Figures cover the United States and Canada, as well as EU registrations from 2021–2025. EU registrations total 251 over that period. The five generations are listed from 1995 onward in US and Canadian figures.
