What it means
The charge port door B position sensor reports a circuit high condition. Door state cannot be verified reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Door B’s position sensor tells the charging system controller whether the charge-port door is open or closed. P2E9B sets when the sensor circuit signal rises above its expected range, which can prevent the controller from recognizing a valid position.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live Door B position data while moving the door, and note whether the input stays high or fails to change.
- Inspect the harness for an open signal wire, short to power, or damaged insulation near the sensor and moving door.
- Check the connector for corrosion, moisture, loose terminals, or poor contact that could leave the signal high.
- Test the sensor output and circuit for continuity and shorts to power using the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
- If the circuit tests correctly, verify the controller input and related grounds before replacing parts.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure the position-sensor connector.
- Repair an open signal wire or short to power in the Door B circuit.
- Replace a failed position sensor.
- Repair a controller connection or input only if testing isolates the fault there.
Can I keep driving?
You can usually drive if the door closes and remains secure, but the controller may not verify its position and charging may not start or may be interrupted. Confirm the door is latched and keep an alternative charging plan.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
