OBD-II fault code

P2E9D: Charge Port Door B Unlock Control Circuit

What it means

The charge port door B unlock control reports a circuit condition. Door cannot be commanded to unlock reliably.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The Door B unlock control circuit carries the command that releases the charge-port door, usually by operating an unlock actuator. P2E9D sets when the charging system controller detects a fault in that control circuit, so the door may not unlock when commanded.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Unlock actuator failed
  2. Wiring fault

Symptoms

  • Charge status indicator shows fault
  • Charging may not start or interrupts
  • Slower-than-expected charge rate

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and related charging faults, then command Door B to unlock with the appropriate scan-tool function if available and observe whether the actuator responds.
  2. Inspect the Door B latch or actuator area and its wiring for damage, obstruction, moisture, or a loose connector.
  3. Check the actuator connector and circuit for poor contact, open wiring, or a short, following the vehicle wiring diagram.
  4. Test the unlock actuator and control circuit as specified by the manufacturer, taking care not to force the charge-port door.
  5. If the actuator and wiring pass, verify the controller’s output and related power and ground connections.

Common fixes

  • Remove an obstruction and secure a loose actuator connector.
  • Repair damaged or open wiring in the Door B unlock circuit.
  • Replace a failed Door B unlock actuator or latch assembly.
  • Repair a controller output connection if circuit testing confirms the fault.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is generally possible if the charge-port door is closed and latched, but you may be unable to access the port and charging could be delayed. Do not force the door or drive with it unsecured; seek assistance if it will not latch.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
