What it means
The charge port door A position sensor reports a high fault. Door state cannot be verified reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The charge port door A position sensor reports the door's state to the control module. This code sets when its signal is above the expected range, which can result from a signal wire shorted to battery voltage or an open sensor circuit.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to B+
- Open position sensor
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and monitor the position signal while moving the door, checking whether it remains high instead of changing state.
- Inspect the sensor connector for open or corroded terminals and check the harness for a signal wire contacting a battery-positive feed.
- Check sensor supply and ground connections using the vehicle wiring diagram and compare them with the manufacturer's specification.
- With the circuit isolated according to the wiring information, determine whether the high reading persists with the sensor disconnected, separating a sensor fault from a harness short.
- Test sensor continuity and signal-circuit integrity against the manufacturer's specification, then check the module input if the circuit passes.
Common fixes
- Repair loose or corroded sensor connector terminals.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to battery voltage or an open circuit.
- Replace an open or failed charge port door A position sensor.
- Repair the module input circuit if the sensor and wiring test correctly.
Can I keep driving?
Driving is generally possible if the door is closed and secure, but the vehicle may be unable to verify the door state and could prevent charging. Confirm the door is fully shut before driving.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
